Fire Forces Blue Mountain to temporarily close

As you may have heard Blue Mountain Culinary Emporium experienced a facility fire during the early morning of March 2. We are fortunate that a medical staff person who was leaving a shift at the Orange City hospital spotted smoke and alerted the local fire department at approximately 3am. We are also very blessed to have a skilled and dedicated team of volunteer firefighters who responded quickly and extinguished the fire, lessening the damage that might have otherwise occurred.

There is significant fire, smoke and water damage, however, which will require all of Blue Mountain to be closed for a period of time. Hopefully we can re-open various parts of the campus as soon as possible. As our valued patrons, we will keep you posted as we learn more.

The fire started in the storage area at the back of the Smokehouse Grille. At this time, the cause appears to be electrical/mechanical related. This part of the facility, while fairly small, will likely need to be completely rebuilt. Additionally, there is smoke and water damage throughout the kitchen and various areas of the Grille and Passport Club, but right now the extent of the damage has not been determined.

The bad news: we will need to close the three restaurants for awhile. Hopefully you will build up a serious appetite for some good Blue Mountain food, and we know you will again enjoy our restaurants as soon as they re-open.

The good news: no one was hurt! Also, since we are a “glass-half-full” team, we consider this an opportunity to rebuild and revamp with some improvements where warranted.

Thank you for your continued patronage. We will keep you in the loop as much as possible over the next few weeks.

Warm regards,

Deb and Clayton Korver, proprietors
And the entire Blue Mountain team
